Modernist self-build - Steelwork

Fabricated steelwork to Rexon Day's ingenious design and specification.

Rexon Day designed the steelwork so that the balcony could be supported without any visible structure. The total removal of the front elevation masonry wall allowed for the introduction of the steel frame from which the balcony could be cantilevered. The steel frame is resin-bolted to the remaining masonry side walls within the floor zone area and the steel uprights are supported on padstones and bedded in with grout.

The galvanised balcony steelwork and torsional restraints are bolted to the main steel structure with Fabreeka-TIM load bearing thermal breaks between the connections. These are a thermally efficient product that prevents thermal bridging in structural connections, maintaining structural integrity while reducing heat loss.
